Roseroot (Rhodiola rosea L.)

Our roseroot plant stem cell extract has a powerful protective and antioxidant activity. It shows protecting and signalling activity on the dermis. It also increases the gene activity of antioxidant enzymes in the skin.

Roseroot (Rhodiola rosea L.), also called golden root or arctic root, is a perennial plant with succulent leaves, yellow flowers and thick rhizomes. The plant originates from Russia (South Siberia) and is distributed in cold temperate or subarctic areas in the Northern hemisphere. The name roseroot originates from the rose like scent that the rhizomes spread when they are divided.

The rhizomes from roseroot have since long been used as an adaptogen within traditional medicine. It was described during the 1st century AD by the Greek physician Dioscorides and was used by the Vikings for strength and endurance. The plant is used to increase physical and mental performance, as well as to counteract tiredness, stress and depression. It also holds anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and cardiovascular protective properties. Roseroot also has a positive effect on sensitive skin and improves overall skin condition.Read

Greater Plantain (Plantago major L.)

Our Greater plantain plant stem cell extract has a powerful protective and antioxidant activity, and a high
tannin content. Tannins have been shown to act as astringent, tightening the skin and minimizing the
visibility of skin pores. It shows strong protecting and signalling activity on the dermis.

Greater plantain (Plantago major L.), also called healing blade or white man’s footprint, is a perennial plant with elliptic shaped leaves. The plant was originally distributed in Northern Europe and Central Asia, but can today be found in many parts of the world. The names plantain and Plantago originates from the Latin word planta, meaning footprint.

P. major is an old medicinal plant well known for its wound healing properties. It was described during the 1st century AD by the Greek physician Dioscorides and was also used by the Vikings. Greater plantain has a long history of traditional medicinal use, for example promotion of wound healing and blood coagulation. Greater plantain has been shown to function anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic, antioxidant and has weak antibiotic properties. In addition, some of its triterpenoids has been shown to increase the concentration of ceramides and collagen in skin cells.Read

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn.)

Our milk thistle plant stem extract has a powerful antioxidant and protective capacity. It helps improve skin elasticity.

Milk thistle (Silybum marianum L.), also called blessed milk thistle or chardon Marie, is native to the Mediterranean region, but is now found throughout the world. The plant has long stems that branch at the top, wide leaves with white blotches or veins. Milk thistle got its name from the milky white sap that comes from the leaves when they are crushed.

Humans have used milk thistle for centuries against disorders in the liver, kidney and gallbladder. The plant was described by the Romans and Greeks, i.e. by Dioscorides during the 1st century AD. The plant is also used as a cell protectant and has been implicated to protect the telomeres (chromosome ends). It is also used for wound healing, treatment against acne and rosacea and to increase moisture. Furthermore, the plant has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing and anti-photodamaging properties.Read

Aloe vera (Aloe vera (L.) Burm. F, syn Aloe Barbadensis Mill.)

Our aloe vera plant stem cell extract has cell-protectant and antioxidant activity. It promotes skin protection by neutralising free radicals.

Aloe vera originates from the Arabian Peninsula, but can nowadays be found in many parts of the world with a dry and warm climate, such as Mediterranean, North Africa and South America.

The plant has a long history of use as a medicinal plant. It is one of the most recognised herbs in the world and has a historical use, e.g. within Ayurveda and in homeopathic treatments. Its use can be traced back to 6 000 years ago in early Egypt, where it was known as the “plant of immortality”. The parenchymal cells from leaves of the plant has a traditional use for wound healing, as a remedy for skin conditions such as burns, frostbite, psoriasis, and cold sores or orally for health promoting purposes and as a laxative.Read
